Rocket Lab stock is soaring: Will the rally continue or reverse after earnings?

by August 10, 2026
written by August 10, 2026

Rocket Lab stock has staged a strong comeback in the past few days, moving from this month’s low of $57.8 to $82.83, its highest point since July 9. It has jumped by 43% from its lowest level this month, mirroring the performance of other space companies, including popular names like SpaceX and Planet Labs. This rally will be put to the test later today when it publishes its financial results.

Rocket Lab stock jumps as backlog jumps

Rocket Lab, a top company in the space industry, is doing well as its backlog continues growing. This growth continued last week when the US government announced a $397 million contract to launch flatellites for the Space Force using its Neutron. The government has an option to increase the number of flatellites in the next few years.

Before that, the company received another $266 million contract with the US Space Force for its suborbital launches. It also secured a deal with iQPS for three dedicated missions, an addition to what the organization had ordered before.

These orders will be in the spotlight when the company publishes its financial results later today. Analysts expect these results to show that its revenue growth accelerated in the second quarter as demand for its launch services rose.

The average estimate among 13 analysts tracking the company is that its revenue jumped by nearly 60% in the quarter to $230 million. Rocket Lab has a long track record of doing better than estimates, meaning that its revenue will likely be higher than that.

Analysts also estimate that its losses narrowed during the quarter. In this, it moved from 13 cents last year to just 8 cents. The company aims to become profitable in the financial year 2028.

First earnings since the Iridium buyout

These will be the first earnings since the company announced its $8 billion buyout of Iridium, a top company on the satellite industry. If this transaction closes, it will intensify the company’s transition into a vertically integrated organization, with a strong market share across various industries.

Rocket Lab has acquired Mynaric AG, Motiv Space Systems, and Optical Support Inc (OSI) this year. Mynaric is in the laser/optical communications terminals industry, while Motiv Space Systems is in the space robotics and actuators industry.

Before its latest buying spree, the company acquired Geost in 2025 and SolAero, Planetary Systems, and Advanced Solutions in 2021.

Analysts have a bullish outlook for the company. Citigroup recently reiterated its outperform rating, while KGI Securities upgraded it from neutral to outperform. Bank of America hiked the rating from $105 to $115.

The daily chart shows that the Rocket Lab stock has rebounded in the past few days, moving from a low of $57 earlier this month to the current $82.83.

It has remained above the ascending trendline that connects the lowest swings since April last year. This trendline has provided it with substantial support in this period.

The stock has also jumped above the 200-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA), a sign that bulls remain in control.

The risk, however, is that the stock is slowly forming a head-and-shoulders pattern whose right shoulder is at $100 and the neckline is at $57. Therefore, there is a risk that the stock will continue rising and then resume the downward trend.
